I hope you’ve had a great week, and managed to stay cool in these pre-summer (but still feels like summer) temperatures ☀️🥵
If you’re already itching to plan a vacation in a cooler climate sometime in the next couple of months, consider attending the upcoming information session by 4Nomads Travel Dream Vacations on May 24. They will be focusing on cruise and Alaskan vacation tips and updates, details on how to attend can be found below.
While you’ve got your calendar out, we have two more upcoming events for you, both at East View High School. The school’s theater program will be performing The Sweet Science of Bruising from May 19 – 21, and a special kids musical show called Rumble in the Rainforest on May 21. Both shows are sure to be great, you don’t want to miss out on these last two performances of the school year!
Also this week, we have a great feature on a new local business: Cookie Co. Georgetown! With new flavors every week, there’s always something new to try, and they’re the perfect dessert to share with a friend or family member. Learn more about their shop in this week’s newsletter.
In business news, the City of Georgetown officially broke ground on the new South Lake Water Treatment Plant this past week. This new plant will double the current water treatment capacity for the city, learn more about it in the story below. Also, Boot Barn in Georgetown is officially open! Located at Wolf Ranch (where DSW used to be), their store has several Western wear options from clothing to boots, to hats and everything in between – see photos of their new store in the newsletter below.
Finally, Memorial Day is just around the corner and we’ve released our working guide with upcoming events and updates. ⭐ Event Spotlight: 4Nomads Travel Dream Vacations Hosting Cruise and Alaskan Vacation Information Session May 24
Summer is just around the corner and on Tuesday, May 24, Georgetown travel agency 4Nomads Travel Dream Vacations is inviting travelers to an information session focusing on cruise and Alaskan vacation tips and updates.
⭐ Event Spotlight: East View High School Theatre to Perform “The Sweet Science of Bruising” May 19 – 21
“The Sweet Science of Bruising,” is a play based in 1869 London, according the play’s description, and focuses on the stories of four Victorian women who are drawn into the underground world of female boxing.
⭐ Business Spotlight: Cookie Co. Georgetown Invites Community to Share a Smile and a Cookie
“With so many occasions coming up – graduations, family gatherings, Father’s Day, end of school parties, and more, these locally made gourmet cookies make a creative and thoughtful gift,” Beverly Querin, owner of Cookie Co. Georgetown, told Hello Georgetown. “We have four flavors each week, starting off with our chocolate chip (made with both semi sweet and milk chocolate chips, real butter, fresh eggs, pure cane sugar) and then we have weekly rotating flavors.”
⭐ Event Spotlight: East View High School Theatre to Perform Special Musical Show for Kids May 21
The show “The Rumpus in the Rainforest,” is a musical play geared specifically for audience members in first through fifth grade, and will be presented by the senior student cast.
City of Georgetown Breaks Ground on South Lake Water Treatment Plant!
“Right now our max day treatment capacity is around between 40 and 44 million gallons a day,” Chelsea Solomon, Water Utilities Director for the City of Georgetown, told Hello Georgetown. “This plant itself is 44 million gallons. So, it purely doubles everything that we’ve got and this plant will take us out at least 10 years in our growth projections.”
UPDATE: Boot Barn Western and Work Wear Open in Georgetown!
“Come and see us,” Joe Serrano, Store Manager, told Hello Georgetown. “I think you’re gonna be happy with our selection here. All of our employees are friendly, willing to help anybody.”
New Annual Georgetown Music Festival Proposed at City Council Workshop
The proposed festival would take place over two days in April 2023, Saturday and Sunday, and would feature a mix of current and retro country music acts.
City Offices Closed Memorial Day, Annual Memorial Day Ceremony Scheduled for May 30
City of Georgetown offices will be closed Monday, May 30, for the Memorial Day holiday. There will be normal solid waste and recycling collection on May 30. The annual Memorial Day Ceremony will start at 9:30 a.m. May 30 in Sun City.
Strategic Partnerships for Community Services Grants: Apply by June 8
The City of Georgetown is now accepting applications from eligible nonprofit agencies for Strategic Partnerships for Community Services grant funding for the City’s 2022-23 Fiscal Year, which begins Oct. 1, 2022.

All eligible St. David’s HealthCare facilities recently earned “A” grades from The Leapfrog Group’s Spring 2022 Hospital Safety Grades. This national distinction recognizes hospitals’ achievements in providing safer healthcare and protecting patients from harm. St. David’s HealthCare is the only hospital system in the Austin area to receive an “A” for all eligible facilities.
