I hope your week is going well! Georgetown’s students are just days away from a new school year, how exciting!
In this week’s newsletter, we have several business updates for you. Aldi’s is officially open in Georgetown, the new Texas Born gas station and convenience store has opened for business as well, and Misu Sushi is under new ownership. We also have word on some businesses coming to town, Wellspring Preparatory Academy and Abundant Family Counseling! Information about all of these updates are in this week’s newsletter.
In other news, the Georgetown City Council has called for the charter amendments election on November 2 and there are several proposed amendments including term limits, council qualifications, council vacancies and more. Georgetown ISD’s board has also called for a bond election. The bond addresses district growth, aging facilities, technology, fine arts and athletics. Read more in the newsletter below.
Plus, Southwestern University has rolled out a brand new athletic brand. You can read the full story about how the new brand came to be in this week’s newsletter. The Caring Place has also received the highest rating from Charity Navigator for the seventh year in a row, and with school starting up again next week, the Georgetown Police Department is reminding drivers to slow down in school zones.

Back to School Guide – 2021
Summer is coming to a close and stores are filling their shelves with back-to-school supplies. A new school year will be here before you know it!

UPDATE: TXB Convenience Store Open in Georgetown!
The gas station and convenience store located at 1402 Williams Drive (see map at the bottom of the article) opened on Saturday, August 7th and told Hello Georgetown their official grand opening will be on August 24th.
Wellspring Preparatory Academy Coming to Georgetown!
“Wellspring Preparatory Academy believes that every child should be able to create and engage in their environment,” Justin Wortham, Co-Owner of the academy, said. “Our magical outdoor playscape comes with berms, trike paths, native plants, pebbles, veggie gardens, and reading nooks. Our bright and peaceful classrooms are filled with developmentally appropriate toys and natural materials. Every classroom and space is considered a place for learning and imaginative play.”
Misu Sushi Under New Ownership!
Owner Ming Hao told Hello Georgetown the restaurant is now open and serving customers with the same Japanese style food they know and love, but with a few new changes like new menu options and adjusted hours.
Abundant Family Counseling Coming to Georgetown!
Owned by Seth Miller, who is a licensed professional counselor, Abundant Family Counseling helps people ages 4 and up find more joy and balance in their lives.
UPDATE: Aldi Open in Georgetown!
“Georgetown was a great fit for us,” Karla Waddleton, ALDI Rosenberg Division Vice President, told Hello Georgetown. “More than anything, we’re just more than excited to be here and to support Georgetown, and really, as we transition back, that we’re able to provide them with the groceries that they need on a daily basis, that we’re able to help them as their kids go off to school with packing lunches, putting breakfast on the table, having dinner ready in the evening, and anything that we can do to assist that and kind of stretch the dollar so that they can have the opportunity to go on one more vacation or to put their child in an extra activity this year. We’re really proud about being part of that family dynamic.”
City Council Calls City Charter Amendments Election for Nov. 2
City of Georgetown voters will have the chance to vote on amendments to the City’s charter during the Nov. 2 election. City Council called the election during its Aug. 10 meeting.
Georgetown ISD Board Calls for November Bond Election
The Georgetown ISD Board of Trustees unanimously approved an order calling for a $381,670,000 million bond election to be held on November 2. The bond addresses district growth, aging facilities, technology, fine arts and athletics.
Public Invited to Hear Georgetown Parks and Recreation Master Plan Survey Results
Georgetown Parks and Recreation is inviting the public to hear the survey results of the Master Plan survey on Wednesday, August 25.
Watch School Zones as Classes Start on Aug. 19
The first day of classes for schools in Georgetown ISD is Thursday, Aug. 19. The Georgetown Police Department reminds drivers to slow down in school zones. As students go back to school, police will be monitoring school zones throughout the city.
City to Host Household Hazardous Waste Event Sept. 15
The City will host a free household hazardous waste collection event from 3-6 p.m. Sept. 15 at the old show barn site in San Gabriel Park, 425 E. Morrow St.

The Caring Place’s strong financial health and commitment to accountability and transparency have earned it a 4-star rating from Charity Navigator, America’s largest independent charity evaluator.
City Making Final Push to Help People Affected by COVID-19 Pay Residential Utility Bills
The City of Georgetown still has more than $900,000 in funding available to help residential utility customers affected by the COVID-19 pandemic pay their utility bills. Anyone whose income has been affected since the start of the pandemic may qualify for assistance.
Southwestern University Rolls Out New Athletics Brand
Southwestern University has rolled out a new logo and brand for the entire athletic department.
National Night Out on Oct. 5
National Night Out, an annual event to support safe neighborhoods, is on Tuesday, Oct. 5, in Georgetown. Block parties are being organized from 6 to 9 p.m.
Georgetown Family Organizes Service Project to Help Local Family
A Georgetown Family is holding a unique fundraiser on Saturday, August 14 to help raise funds to offset the cost of their adoption while also helping a local woman in need.
Williamson County 4-H Hosting Open House on August 19
Visitors of all ages are welcome at the free open house. The event will be held in the parking lot behind the main Extension Office building at 100 Wilco Way, Georgetown, Texas.
