A very merry Christmas to you all!
As we prepare for Christmas and New Years, there’s lots happening in our community over the next week or two. Our Christmas Events, Light Displays and Christmas meal guides received some new additions just within the past few days, plus we have some great tips from a local doctor on how you can remain safe from cuts, burns and other injuries this holiday season.
Also this week, the Georgetown Palace Theatre announced that a gift from the estate of Doug Smith has allowed them to pay off the remaining mortgage for the Doug Smith Performance Center! What wonderful news!
In other news, we have details on the best places to take your holiday string lights, and old Christmas trees and boxes after the festivities. Plus, with New Years just on the heels of Christmas, we’ve already released our New Years guide for Georgetown, Texas full of plenty of fun events happening around town!

Georgetown Residents Encouraged to Recycle Christmas Trees and Boxes
City of Georgetown residents are encouraged to recycle Christmas trees, boxes, and wrapping paper to reduce material going to the landfill. If you recycle your tree, please remove the tree stand and any garland, ornaments, or lights. Artificial trees cannot be recycled.
City Council Approves New Council District Map
The new Council Districts, as well as other local and state district boundaries, will be effective in January.
Local Doctor Gives Tips for Having a Safe Holiday Season
Among some of the common issues seen during the holidays include burns, cuts and alcohol-related injuries, Dr. Harlan Goode, an emergency room physician at St. David’s Georgetown Hospital, told Hello Georgetown.
Gift from Estate of Doug Smith Pays Off Remaining Performance Center Mortgage
The Georgetown Palace Theatre has announced that a gift from the estate of Doug Smith has allowed them to pay off the remaining mortgage for the Doug Smith Performance Center!
Holiday Closings for City Facilities and Services
City of Georgetown offices and facilities will be closed Friday, Dec. 24, and Monday, Dec. 27, in observance of the Christmas holiday. City offices also will be closed on Friday, Dec. 31, in observance of the New Year’s holiday.
Holiday Office Closures for Williamson County Offices
Williamson County offices will be closed for the Christmas holiday on December 23 and 24, 2021, as well as on December 31, 2021, for the New Year’s holiday. The Commissioners Court will not meet December 28, 2021.
Georgetown Encouraged to “Adopt Don’t Shop for Christmas”
Give the gift of love and companionship for Christmas by adopting a dog or cat from the Georgetown Animal Shelter. The shelter is overflowing with good dogs and cats looking for soft beds and full bellies.
City Holiday String Lights Recycling Available Through Jan. 31
Residents can drop off their old or broken string lights through Jan. 31 at one of three collection stations.
City to Host Household Hazardous Waste Event Jan. 19
The event will be available for up to 300 Georgetown solid waste customers who have solid waste service through Texas Disposal Systems. Customers must contact Customer Care at 512-930-3640 or customercare@georgetown.org to have their name placed on a list. Please include your name, address, and utility account number when emailing customer care. Customers must have their name on the list to participate.
